Uasin Gishu:Dairy farmers embrace livestock insurance!
“The Program was rolled out early last year in the North rift region”
By Jessicah Nyaboke.
Dairy farmers in Uasin Gishu County have a reason to smile after an Insurance firm established a program that will compensate them over loss of livestock to diseases.
According to Elkana Kiptoo from Liberty Insurance Company, farmers will be compensated for the number of days their livestock fell sick and or in case of death.
Speaking in Eldoret during The Mater Heart Run, Elkana noted that the insurance company will also support farmers in case of natural calamities that could see farmers lose their livestock.
The Program was rolled out early last year in the North rift region to caution farmers against such disasters and targets cover for high value animals (dairy or beef).
Farmers have been encouraged to embrace Insurance uptake for their livestock as well as crops to cushion them from losses.
The liberty official has also assured that the company will offer scholarship opportunities to needy students who score 350 marks and above in their National examinations.
