The High Court in Eldoret has scheduled April 21, 2026, for the hearing of a murder case involving a primary school teacher accused of poisoning her nine-year-old son.

Presiding Judge Justice Emily Ominde set the date after the prosecution informed the court that plea bargain negotiations between the State and the defence had collapsed, paving the way for a full trial.

“This case will now proceed to a full hearing after the plea bargain discussions failed to yield a resolution,” the prosecution told the court.

However, the matter will be handled by a different judge following the transfer of Justice Ominde to the High Court in Bungoma.

“This case will now be handled by a new judge who is set to replace me as I proceed to Bungoma High Court where I have been posted,” Justice Ominde said in her ruling.

Murder Charge

The accused, Sylivia Bosibori, faces charges of murdering her son between May 17 and May 20, 2022, at the Joyland area in Turbo Sub County, Uasin Gishu County.

According to the prosecution, Bosibori allegedly poisoned the child by mixing morphine with a soft drink and administering it to him following domestic disputes.

Court documents indicate that after the alleged incident, the suspect reportedly continued with her daily routine, including attending work at a local school, while the child’s body remained inside their house.

Discovery of the Body

The incident came to light several days later when neighbours raised alarm after a foul smell began emanating from the house.

Concerned residents reportedly peeped through the window and saw the lifeless body of the child lying on a bed before alerting officers from Kamukunji Police Station.

Police officers visited the scene and found the decomposing body inside the locked house. The body was later moved to the morgue at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation pending an autopsy.

Trial Ahead

The prosecution has lined up nine witnesses expected to testify during the trial.

Bosibori, who has denied the charge, is currently out on a cash bail of Sh30,000 as the court prepares to begin the hearing on April 21 before the incoming judge.

The case is expected to draw significant public interest as proceedings begin in the High Court in Eldoret.
