Barely six months into his new station Uasin Gishu County commissioner is walking on a tightrope after  political leaders in the County cast disparagement over  his  abilities in curbing  runaway  crime  and  lawlessness currently  being experienced in the President’s Backyard .

Led by Hon Francis Muya Mwangi,The  Uasin Gishu County leader of the minority, the leaders  have  claimed   the current  commissioner Dr  Eddyson Nyale is  not  equal to the  task and that  his  office currently  appears  to be  an extension of the  county governor’s  office and  the members of  the public had  lost confidence  in him.

And  while Addressing the president who hails from the same region, Mr. Muya called for a quick  replacement  of  the commissioner whom he claims despite  being chair of  the Security  committee  within the  county he had  failed  to instill confidence in the members of the public  in the  fight  against  rising  cases of  lawlessness  currently  occasioned by  a criminal gang  that has  been   terrorizing traders.

“Let us be open, we have had  many county commissioners here in Uasin Gishu County but the current commissioner is below par. Mr. President, it doesn’t matter where you find a replacement for the county commissioner but your name is being soiled in your home county because the county commissioner is sleeping on his job, I believe he should be transferred elsewhere where he will not get taxing responsibilities because he is not equal to this county,The president is too busy to be involved in this county’s dirt but you are the one to stop these dirty deeds happening in this county.” Said Francis Muya Mwangi, MCA Huruma Ward.

Mr. Muya went ahead to question the County commissioner whom he claims as the head of security in the  county should be on the forefront in condemning these acts of insecurity and lawlessness being witnessed in Uasin Gishu County lately  and that no arrests   had  been made.

“Mr. County Commissioner, it seems your office is an extension of the office of the governor. The rising levels of insecurity and lawlessness being witnessed in this county is because you, as the president’s eyes, have failed in your work, I’d like to ask the security committee which you head, are things being done right in Uasin Gishu County?. We  are  informed of  the presence of  a criminal gang  by  the name  “Koita”which continued  to wreak havoc  within the  county unabated ,”What is  your office  doing” Lamented Muya.

Furious about the harassment of traders and business persons Muya Called on the governor to come out clean on the status of the now feared group commonly known as Koita consisting of about 30 individuals who go around frustrating traders yet they are not part of the County enforcement team.

“Our governor Jonathan Bii Chelilm, it is said this group is not part of our enforcement agency. They are a group of about 30 individuals who go by the name Koita, they are not on Uasin Gishu’s payroll. This is a criminal gang and I want the governor to come out clean and tell residents what he knows of  this dreaded  gang  involved in many assault  cases , harassment , destruction of property as well as sexual  harassment  As leaders, we won’t  accept such acts of  hooliganism to take place . We want to know whether Mr.Cosmas kerich , the county  enforcement  officer, is responsible for these atrocities being committed.” Remarked Muya.

Some of the 300 jobless youth who claim to have their trolleys confiscated by the County enforcement officers,The youth have pleaded with Governor Bii to allow them fed for their families rather than engage in crime

At the Eldoret central police station, we have numerous OB’s from  traders having been assaulted and harassed. As we speak now, there are a number of trolleys confiscated at the yard, more than 300 of them. Mr. Governor, we cannot get rid of the trolley pushers just because we want to be a city, All we need to do is to regulate them. Let’s accord a conducive business environment for all cadres to traders to spur Eldoret’s economic growth “Added Muya.

The Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Moses Muriithi has  however promised the public  cases of  the harassment  by the  county askaris  will be investigated and those  found culpable will arraigned in Court.
