Uasin Gishu County to invest Ksh100 M in internet connectivity and free WiFi

The Uasin Gishu County Government will invest close to Ksh.100 M in internet connectivity within the Central Business District and the County government offices across the thirty wards.

 

In his  address during  the  Innovation week  held  at the Rupas Mall Eldoret, Abraham  Serem the County executive member  for  Water, Environment  and Natural  resources , Noted  that the County government  was keen  to  supporting  programs  that would  benefit the  youth in the  County,

 

“The  Uasin Gishu county government  will ensure availability of  Wi-Fi connectivity within Eldoret Town and  across the thirty wards in order to enable  the youth undertake  online jobs  to their  convenience ,Our governor is also keen to ensure  the 30% job opportunities for the  youth within the  counties do get to them,” Noted Serem.

 

Serem added  that the County government  in realizing the need  to support  the  youth ,has also invested  in the AJIRA digital platform  among other programs  targeted  at  benefitting  the  youth.

 

And  on Mitigating climate  change the CECM added that the  county government  will invest  ten  times more of  its  budgetary allocation towards environment  to double up efforts  towards climate  conservation ,

“We  shall be collaborating  with the  National Government  in climate  conservation and we intend  to fully involve our youth in conservation efforts.On this  we  have urged  our  youth  during this  innovation week to also come up with creative innovations that will go a long  way in mitigating  climate change,”Added  Serem.

 

Douglas Maina the Director Innovation week urged the private sector to closely work with the youth by supporting creative ideas that could be commercialized,

 

“Today we are happy  our  youth are no longer the imaginers  but  creators , we only  need to provide  adequate funding  to ensure their  creative ideas  are  supported  and  commercialized “Said Maina.

 

 

The Innovation week is closely working with the private sector and other partners who include international donors to connect  youth to the relevant business partners.
