The Uasin Gishu County Government has taken immediate action following recent media reports that have repeatedly portrayed Eldoret as a hub for scammers. The latest of these reports highlighted allegations of students being defrauded while seeking job and study opportunities abroad.

“Our attention has been drawn to these stories, which have cast a negative light on our city,” the county administration stated. “We want to assure everyone that this is not an accurate reflection of Eldoret.”

Eldoret, a vibrant, progressive, and cosmopolitan city, is home to people from all walks of life and stands ready to welcome investors and visitors alike. “Our county is a beacon of growth, opportunity, and innovation,” the statement continued.

In response to the reports, the administration, in collaboration with relevant authorities, will launch a rigorous crackdown on fraudulent operations within the city. “We will revoke the operating licenses of any agency found to be violating regulations within our county,” the administration warned.

This move comes amid growing frustration among residents, who have held numerous demonstrations in Eldoret, decrying being conned out of millions of shillings. Despite these public outcries, there has been little visible action taken to apprehend the culprits responsible.

Additionally, the county has called on the National Employment Authority and the Ministry of Labour to enforce stricter vetting processes before approving any applications. “There must be accountability at all levels to protect our citizens and uphold the integrity of our city,” the county government emphasized.

The county further stressed that Eldoret deserves to be recognized for its achievements and should not be undermined by unscrupulous individuals and companies targeting hardworking citizens.

“We empathize with the parents and students affected by these scams. It is intolerable that our citizens are being preyed upon by unscrupulous individuals and agencies,” the statement read.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and conduct proper due diligence before committing to opportunities that may later prove to be fraudulent. “My administration is committed to ensuring that the City of Eldoret continues to thrive as a welcoming and prosperous hub for all,” the county government concluded.
