“Through this collaboration, we are not only addressing gender issues but also making significant strides towards creating a more equitable society.”

The Finnish Embassy in Kenya has praised the County Government of Uasin Gishu for its leadership in establishing the Department of Gender and Community Development and creating a robust policy framework to guide its operations.

The gender policy, developed in collaboration with partners including Rural Women Peace Link, the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, NORTA, Kerio Rights Organisation, Reprodrive, and the National Council of Churches Kenya, marks a significant step toward gender equality in the region.

Finnish Embassy officials, during a courtesy visit to Uasin Gishu’s Executive Committee Member for Gender, Anthony Sitienei, lauded the County’s efforts. They were joined by representatives from Rural Women Peace Link to review the ongoing collaboration on the policy’s development and to discuss future areas of cooperation.

Mr. Sitienei emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Through this collaboration, we are not only addressing gender issues but also making significant strides towards creating a more equitable society.”

He expressed confidence that once the policy is enacted into law, its implementation will enhance gender equality and contribute to the county’s overall progress, fostering a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

Georgina Gichohi, the Finnish Embassy’s Programs Officer, reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to supporting the initiative, noting that the policy will play a crucial role in mainstreaming gender issues and addressing existing gaps.

The meeting was also attended by County Director for Gender and Community Development Joywin Sang, Executive Director of Rural Women Peace Link Sally Wuodi, and other county officials.
