Her remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with concerns over increasing human rights violations, abductions, and extrajudicial killings.

US envoy to Kenya Meg Whitman fields questions to the media in Eldoret after holding a meeting with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii ( Left ) in his office in Eldoret town yesterday.

In a call to action delivered from Uasin Gishu County, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, emphasized the crucial role of the rule of law in fostering a functional democracy.

Addressing the youth, particularly Generation Z, Whitman highlighted their potential to drive change but stressed the importance of doing so within legal frameworks.

Speaking during a visit to Eldoret, President William Ruto’s home county, Whitman urged the young people of Kenya to actively participate in democratic processes while respecting the rule of law.

Describing Generation Z as educated and vibrant, she advised them to steer clear of any actions that might endanger their lives in the course of their activism.

“The country has a vibrant and well-educated Generation Z who are fighting for change, and it’s upon them to ensure they abide by the rule of law for the sake of protecting their fundamental freedom,” said Whitman.

Her remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with concerns over increasing human rights violations, abductions, and extrajudicial killings.

The ambassador expressed deep concern over these incidents, which have drawn condemnation from political and religious leaders, as well as human rights activists.

She called on the Kenyan government to address these troubling trends, stressing the importance of safeguarding citizens’ rights, particularly in the face of mounting outcry from anti-government critics.

Whitman’s statements followed a closed-door meeting with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, where she discussed key areas of collaboration between the U.S. and Kenya.

She reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to deepening ties with the Kenya Kwanza administration, particularly in sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and green energy.

“The US government is committed to strengthening its cooperation with the government in the sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, and green energy,” she emphasized.

The ambassador’s remarks were timely, given the ongoing public discourse on the government’s responsibility to guarantee the safety and rights of its citizens.

Recent reports of bodies being dumped in certain parts of the country have intensified scrutiny on the government’s efforts to combat forced disappearances and extrajudicial actions.

Whitman’s visit and her firm stance on the rule of law underscore the international community’s interest in Kenya’s political landscape and human rights record, particularly as the country navigates these challenges.
