Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba officially released the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at Mitihani House, On Thursday, January 9, 2025,Nairobi.

The results revealed a significant milestone, with 246,391 students attaining the university entry grade of C+ and above, marking an impressive achievement for the nation’s education system.

A total of 962,512 candidates sat for the national examinations conducted across 10,754 centers nationwide. This represented a 6.89% increase in candidature compared to 2023 when 903,260 students sat for the exams.

The increase reflects Kenya’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to education and accommodate a growing student population.

Resilience Amid Challenges

During the announcement, CS Ogamba acknowledged the challenges students faced during their four-year secondary education journey. From disruptions caused by floods to the global COVID-19 pandemic, students demonstrated resilience and determination to achieve academic excellence.

Ogamba commended the candidates for their hard work and attributed their performance to the newly introduced grading system, which aims to ensure a fair assessment of students’ capabilities.

The Education Ministry also recognized teachers and parents for their unwavering support in helping students navigate these challenges.

Access to Results

For the first time, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) introduced an online portal for candidates to access their results.

Students and parents can visit the KNEC website, select the results tab, and input their index numbers and registration details to view their performance. This innovative approach aims to streamline the dissemination of results and reduce delays.

Moving Forward

The results signify a bright future for education in Kenya, with students who attained university entry grades expected to join higher education institutions later this year.

Ogamba emphasized the government’s commitment to further improving the education sector, including addressing challenges in infrastructure and resource allocation.

The announcement also highlighted the successful completion of the marking process, which concluded on December 13, 2024, at 40 marking centers nationwide. Examiners played a crucial role in ensuring the timely release of results.

The release of the 2024 KCSE results brings an end to months of anticipation, marking another step forward in Kenya’s journey to providing quality education for all.
