-The Trade Minister has assured that the government will quickly resolve some of the existing challenges-
Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen (Roads) and Hon. Moses Kuria (Investment and Industry), Thursday relaunched cargo flights at the Eldoret International Airport.
Cargo Operations at the airport had been interrupted for the last three months .
The Trade Minister has assured that the government will quickly resolve some of the existing challenges that have hampered Cargo transportation at the Airport .
“I am advised that the cost of transporting cargo through this airport is twice as much compared to other airports ,this is largely informed by the fact that the runway should be extended by another 500M to allow for smooth landing of cargo planes ”He stated
CS Kuria has affirmed that the government has initiated talks to acquire land for the expansion of the Eldoret Airport runway.
Eldoret International airport is strategically located , benefiting over ten neighboring counties,it is a crucial hub for storing and exporting agricultural products.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii is optimistic that more job opportunities will be created at the airport even as tea , flower and vegetable farmers prepare to maximize their profit through export.
“With plans to elevate Eldoret to city status, I have urged the Ministry of Roads to expand the runway by 600 meters. This expansion will attract diverse aircraft, enhancing trade and connectivity in line with my vision for Eldoret’s growth.”Opined the governor.
Currently the airport has two scheduled International cargo flights and several ad hoc freighters per week.
