Conferment of Eldoret to a city delayed for another six months!
The committee was on a fact finding mission to assess the requirements needed for a Town’s elevation to City status.
Eldoret town will be elevated into a city in the next six months.
Wajir Senator Sheikh Abbas-led Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and
Inter-Governmental Relations has revealed after making an inspection tour of
various mega multi-millions shillings infrastructural facilities within
Eldoret town ahead of its conferment to a city.
Eldoret Town has fulfilled all the essential criteria, towards it’s elevation to a City status however the committee awaits a report on environmental impact assessment and facilitation, the County is expected to expedite some of the water projects to ensure enough water supply to the residents of Eldoret, sewer works are also ongoing Said Kisii senator Richard Onyonka.
Onyoka further reveals much work still remains towards the completion of the Eldoret Northern bypass connecting Kapchorwa-Suam-Kitale.
Eldoret town has however excelled in other critical areas necessary before the conferment of the city status that includes the steady growth in revenue, population size and other infrastructural development.

The Standing committee will present a report to the senate for adoption, once approved the President will grant the town a City Charter.
