A South Sudanese national living in Kapsoya Estate, Eldoret, is among the young men who lost their lives in the Tuesday anti-finance bill protests held in Eldoret last week.

Malang Chuol, 20, was reportedly part of a group of young individuals who invaded the Timber XO Club, owned by a well-known politician in Eldoret. According to reports, his body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Another young man, Kipkorir Sawe, 25, died from two gunshot wounds, one of which completely destroyed his lungs, according to postmortem reports. Additionally, 17-year-old Fredi Oyaro, also from Kapsoya, succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained at Timber XO.

The families are demanding justice, and the Law Society of Kenya, along with other human rights organizations, including the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, have condemned the police for using excessive force against the unarmed protesters.

Last Tuesday’s protests in Eldoret resulted in significant destruction, with several vehicles belonging to the County Government of Uasin Gishu and other residents burnt to ashes. A municipality court was also set on fire, while Baniyas Club and Timber XO Club were looted and vandalized by some protesters.
