The Siaya County Government has officially announced vacancies in three key County Executive Committee Member, or CECM, posts, sort of clearing the way for new recruitments who will oversee important county departments.

In a public notice from the office of Governor James Orengo, applications were invited for the CECM roles in Finance and Economic Planning, Health and Sanitation, and also Education, Youth Affairs, Gender and Social Services.

The Finance and Education spots were re-advertised after the Siaya County Assembly rejected Governor Orengo’s nominees, George Nying’iro and Grace Agola, during the vetting phase.

“The vacancies have been declared and qualified candidates are invited to apply for consideration,” the notice said, in part and, yes, plainly.

Meanwhile the Health and Sanitation docket is also vacant after the term of former CECM Martin K’Onyango expired. Until a substantive appointment is made, the department is being run by the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Prof. Jackline Oduol, in an acting capacity.

Governor Orengo’s administration has also pushed for applications from women, young people, minority groups, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), in line with efforts meant to support regional balance, diversity, and gender inclusivity within county leadership.

“We strongly encourage women, youths, minorities and Persons Living with Disabilities to apply in order to enhance inclusivity and equitable representation,” the notice added.

Applicants who are interested and meet the requirements have up to June 18, 2026 to submit their applications. The process will see shortlisted candidates first, then they will go through public vetting and approval by the Siaya County Assembly, as the law requires, before they can formally step into office.

Overall, the recruitment is expected to plug the leadership gaps in the affected departments and, at the end of it all, bolster service delivery across the county.
