On Saturday, President William Ruto took to his verified social media accounts to address a key concern regarding the rising cost of water in Kenya.

In a statement, Ruto urged the Water Services Regulatory Board, the County Government of Nyeri, and the Ministry of Water to take immediate action to lower water prices.

He emphasized that the price reduction should align with the purchasing power of the Kenyan people, a move aimed at easing the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

Ruto’s call for affordable water came as he was in Nyeri County, where he also spearheaded the foundation-laying ceremony for a major development project in Othaya Town.

The project, valued at KSh 325 million, will see the construction of a state-of-the-art modern market.

The market will feature 1,000 stalls, cold storage rooms, and ICT hubs, designed to enhance the business environment in the region and promote economic growth.

Addressing the residents and traders of Othaya Town, President Ruto expressed his commitment to improving the livelihoods of Kenyans through various development programs across the country.

He assured the people that the government remains focused on addressing the challenges they face, particularly in areas such as infrastructure and essential services.

The new market in Othaya is expected to have a significant positive impact on local businesses, offering improved facilities for traders and entrepreneurs.

The inclusion of cold rooms and ICT hubs is expected to modernize trading practices in the area, making it easier for traders to store goods and access digital services that can improve their operations.

President Ruto’s visit to Nyeri County marks a continuation of his efforts to promote economic empowerment and infrastructural development in rural areas.

As the government pushes forward with these projects, the focus remains on ensuring that development benefits are felt by all, particularly in the most underserved regions.

With the launch of this market and the ongoing discussions on reducing the cost of essential services like water, Ruto’s administration is making strides toward creating an environment where both small-scale traders and ordinary citizens can thrive.

The community of Othaya, as well as other parts of Nyeri County, are set to benefit from the new developments, which aim to boost local economies and improve quality of life.
