Reuben Tobosei Clinches UDA Ticket for Tembelio Ward By-Election
Reuben Kigen Tobosei has won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nomination for the upcoming Tembelio Ward by-election after a highly contested primary held over the weekend.
Official results show Tobosei garnered 3,454 votes, far ahead of his closest rival Nicholas Kipchumba Koech who managed 970 votes. The nomination attracted significant participation, with 7,303 registered UDA members turning out to cast their ballots.
Other aspirants trailed as follows: Nahashon Kipchirchir Kipsiro (897 votes), Moses Kiptoo “Kinetic” (754 votes), Emmanuel Kiplagat Kiprop (498 votes), Fred Cheruiyot Kirui (448 votes), Grace Jemutai Kiplomo (128 votes), Timothy Chebii (124 votes) and Emmanuel Kimutai Toroitich (30 votes).
Background on UDA Primaries
The United Democratic Alliance, formed in 2020 and now Kenya’s ruling party under President William Ruto, selects its candidates for elections through member-based primaries. In regions such as Uasin Gishu County, where UDA enjoys strong grassroots support, winning the party ticket is often seen as a key step toward eventual victory at the ballot box.

With the party ticket secured, Tobosei is now expected to focus on consolidating support ahead of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s scheduled polling date of November 27, 2025.
