Over 300 members of the Moi University community demand ouster of VC Prof Kosgey

Over 300 members of the Moi University community took to the streets in a demonstration, issuing a 21-day ultimatum and demanding the immediate removal of Moi University Vice Chancellor, Isack Kosgey.
Led by Eldoret human rights activists Kimutai Kirui and Edward Rotich, the residents walked over 5 kilometers, voicing their concerns and advocating for various reforms.”
Edward Rotich emphasized the community’s demands, stating, “We are demanding fair pay for all casual workers and the reinstatement of the 48 casuals who were unjustly dismissed. We also call for an end to sexual harassment for promotion, an end to abnormal worker transfers, and the opening up of the Moi University road from the main gate to Chebaiywo, which we believe is a public road.”
Highlighting additional concerns, Rotich continued, “We are seeking the restoration of corporate social responsibility, including the revival of the miller. Furthermore, we call for the removal of Obadiah Rotich, the Chief Security Officer, and the remittance of all payroll deductions.”
Human Rights Activist Kimutai Kirui stressed the urgency of the situation, stating, “The 21-day ultimatum is a clear message that the Moi University community demands swift action. We are particularly concerned about the appointment of Prof. Isack Kosgey, who has now become an eyesore.”
“In 2021, local politicians demonstrated in support of Prof. Kosgey’s appointment, but now the community feels let down and is united in demanding change,” added Kirui.
The demonstration underscores the collective voice of the Moi University community in seeking reforms and a change in leadership for the betterment of the institution.
The community’s petition was received by Lilian Lagat the Deputy County Commissioner Kesses Sub County .
