The Nursing Council of Kenya has warned members of the public against interacting with a fraudulent Facebook page impersonating the nursing regulator and misleading users into believing it is an official communication platform.

In a public notice issued Friday, the council said the fake account is unlawfully using its logo, reposting official content and falsely presenting itself as an authorized channel of communication.

“The fake page is illegally using the Nursing Council of Kenya logo, reposting NCK content and misleading members of the public into believing it is an official communication channel,” the council said.

The regulator said the page is operated by an individual with no affiliation to the institution and cautioned the public against engaging with its administrators or responding to any information shared through the account.

It also advised Kenyans not to disclose personal information or make payments in response to requests made through the fraudulent page or any other account falsely claiming to represent the council.

“Do not engage with the fake page or its administrators. Do not share personal information or make any payments in response to any requests made through the fraudulent page or any other page falsely claiming to represent NCK,” the notice said.

The council clarified that its official Facebook page bears a blue verification badge and urged the public to treat any unverified account purporting to represent the institution as fraudulent.

It encouraged stakeholders to verify official information through the council’s verified social media platforms and official website before acting on any communication.

In addition to its verified Facebook page, the council said authentic updates are available through its official X account, @NCKenya.

The regulator said it has initiated measures to have the fraudulent page removed and urged members of the public to report any social media accounts impersonating the institution.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of its communication channels and safeguarding the public from online fraud and misinformation.

“As we continue to uphold our vision of ‘A Safe and Healthier World,’ we remain committed to protecting the public from misinformation, fraud and impersonation while ensuring timely and credible communication,” the council said.

It urged Kenyans to remain vigilant when interacting with online platforms claiming to represent public institutions and to verify the authenticity of social media accounts before relying on information posted on them.

“Protect yourself. Verify before you trust,” the council said.

The Nursing Council of Kenya is the statutory body responsible for regulating nursing and midwifery education, training and practice in the country. Its mandate includes registering and licensing nurses and midwives, accrediting training institutions, setting professional standards, conducting licensing examinations and promoting safe, ethical and quality nursing and midwifery services.
