The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned officials from Risen Sacco and Royal Swift Express Limited following two separate road accidents along Enterprise Road and the Nairobi–Namanga Highway that resulted in deaths and injuries.

In a statement, NTSA expressed concern over a fatal crash involving a public service vehicle operated by Risen Sacco in Nairobi’s Industrial Area along Enterprise Road. The accident claimed at least four lives and left 15 passengers injured.

“The Authority is saddened by the fatal road traffic crash involving a Public Service Vehicle operated by Risen Sacco along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area,” NTSA said.

According to witnesses, the matatu, commonly referred to as a “Nganya,” was allegedly performing dangerous maneuvers before the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The matatu overturned on the busy roadway, trapping several passengers inside. Emergency responders, together with members of the public, mounted rescue efforts to free those trapped and assist the injured.

Photos from the scene showed the vehicle extensively damaged after rolling onto its side.

Authorities confirmed that those who lost their lives included three passengers and a female pedestrian believed to be about 30 years old.

Police reported that the 15 injured passengers were rushed to different hospitals for treatment, with some sustaining serious injuries.

NTSA also disclosed that it had received reports of another crash involving a vehicle operated by Royal Swift Express Limited along the Nairobi–Namanga Highway. Unlike the Enterprise Road incident, the second accident was non-fatal.

“We remain committed to conducting thorough investigations and will take the necessary action based on the findings,” the Authority stated.

The road safety regulator has urged public service vehicle operators and their crews to observe traffic regulations and prioritize passenger safety as investigations into both incidents continue.
