Nine Killed in Tragic Road Accident on Eldoret-Kitale Highway
Preliminary reports indicate that the canter lorry veered off its lane, colliding with the matatu and resulting in the tragic loss of life.
Nine people lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Eldoret-Kitale Highway on Tuesday morning. Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwathi confirmed the incident, stating that all nine victims died on the spot.
The accident occurred near Soy Shopping Center at around 9:00 a.m. and involved a head-on collision between a canter lorry transporting water pipes towards Kitale and a matatu heading towards Eldoret.
Preliminary reports indicate that the canter lorry veered off its lane, colliding with the matatu and resulting in the tragic loss of life. “The collision caused immediate fatalities. Investigations have commenced to establish the exact cause of the accident,” Mwathi stated.
The authorities have urged road users to exercise caution, particularly along busy highways, to prevent further accidents. “We appeal to all drivers to adhere to traffic rules and remain vigilant to avoid such tragic incidents,” Mwathi added.
Rescue teams and law enforcement officers were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and clear the road, which caused a temporary disruption to traffic. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
