Ngetich Defends Sirikwa Classic Crown as Korir Stuns Field in Eldoret

World cross-country champion Agnes Ngetich delivered on her promise by successfully defending her crown at the fifth edition of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour held in Eldoret.
Ngetich stormed to victory in 32:28, finishing ahead of Mercy Chepkemoi (33:42) and Catherine Manangole (33:51). She credited the enthusiastic support from fans for inspiring her performance despite the strong winds.

“It’s just like last time, the climate was the same and I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was cheering me on and it gave me the motivation to continue running. I was not feeling lonely because the fans were in every corner,” she said.
Ngetich noted that the win holds special meaning due to her deep passion for cross-country running. The triumph further cements her status as one of Kenya’s standout long-distance stars.
In the men’s race, John Korir claimed victory in 29:34, ahead of Amos Kiprotich (29:46) and Silas Senchura, while Daniel Simiu Ebenyo finished fifth. Korir described the win as unexpected.“
It’s my first cross country, I’m feeling good and I came here to see how my shape is and I’m happy. My target is the Boston Marathon and I participated in this race to see how my body would respond,” he said.
Korir’s triumph boosts confidence as he builds toward his marathon ambitions. Once again, the Sirikwa Classic highlighted Kenya’s depth of talent, reinforcing Eldoret’s reputation as a global hub of athletics.Korir’s commanding display underlined his steady rise in form as he sharpens up for the demanding test awaiting him at the Boston Marathon.
