Manchester City has finalized a €15 million deal to sign 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg BK, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement, brokered by agent Rafaela Pimenta, includes a long-term plan for the promising talent, who is regarded as one of Europe’s top young prospects.
Nypan, who made his professional debut for Rosenborg at just 15 years old, has been a standout performer in Norway’s Eliteserien. In the 2024 season, he scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 28 appearances, showcasing his versatility and technical prowess.
His performances have drawn comparisons to fellow Norwegian midfielder Martin Ødegaard, highlighting his potential to make an impact at the highest levels of European football.
Following the completion of the transfer, Nypan is scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Monday. Upon passing the medical, he is expected to sign a long-term contract with Manchester City.
The club plans to loan him out initially to gain valuable first-team experience, although the destination club has yet to be confirmed. Reports indicate that Girona, a club within the City Football Group, is among the potential options being assessed.
The acquisition of Nypan marks a significant investment in Manchester City’s youth development strategy. The club has already made substantial moves in the transfer market this summer, bringing in midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri, and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
The addition of Nypan further emphasizes City’s commitment to building a squad for sustained success, blending experienced internationals with emerging talents.
