Liverpool FC has officially secured the signing of German midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal that sets a new Premier League transfer record.
The agreement, finalized after extensive negotiations, includes a fixed fee of €117.5 million, with potential performance-related add-ons bringing the total to €136.3 million (approximately £116 million) .
Wirtz, 22, has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga, contributing significantly to Bayer Leverkusen’s success. In the 2023/24 season, he scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists in 49 appearances, leading to his recognition as the Bundesliga Player of the Season . His exceptional vision, technical skills, and versatility make him a valuable addition to Liverpool’s midfield.
The transfer fee surpasses Liverpool’s previous record, set by Virgil van Dijk’s £75 million move in 2017, and positions Wirtz as the most expensive signing in Premier League history .
Wirtz is expected to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool upon completing a medical examination, scheduled for next week after his return from a personal holiday .
