Lille OSC President Olivier Létang has put an end to speculation regarding Jonathan David’s immediate future at the club, confirming that the Canadian forward will not be leaving during the January transfer window.

Speaking in an interview with After RMC, Létang also revealed that the club has offered David a new contract, leaving the decision in the player’s hands.

“Jonathan David will NOT leave in January,” Létang stated firmly. “We made a new contract proposal, and it’s up to Jonathan now.”

David, who has been instrumental for Lille with his consistent performances and goal-scoring prowess, is widely regarded as one of the top attacking talents in Europe.

His contract situation has been the subject of much debate, with reports indicating that the 23-year-old could leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season.

Despite Lille’s efforts to secure his future with a fresh contract, the current plan appears to align with allowing David to see out his contract before departing the club next summer.

The decision would enable the Canadian to explore new opportunities while providing Lille with crucial contributions during the remainder of the season.

David has been linked with several top European clubs, including those in the Premier League and Serie A, due to his impressive goal-scoring record and versatility in attack.

While his departure as a free agent would be a setback for Lille financially, Létang’s remarks suggest the club is prioritizing his impact on the pitch over immediate transfer revenues.

The news has drawn mixed reactions from Lille supporters, with some disappointed by the prospect of losing their star forward for free, while others appreciate the club’s commitment to maintaining its competitiveness this season.

David’s performances will be critical as Lille pushes for a strong finish in Ligue 1 and other competitions.

Jonathan David, who joined Lille in 2020, has developed into one of the league’s most prolific strikers. His contributions helped the club secure the Ligue 1 title in the 2020-2021 season, and he remains a fan favorite at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

As the transfer saga unfolds, attention will now turn to whether David accepts Lille’s latest contract offer or opts to explore new horizons next summer.

Either way, his presence in Lille’s lineup for the rest of the season is a significant boost for the club.
