Kipkombot Primary School, in Mosop, Nandi County, once on the brink of collapse, is undergoing a massive facelift, thanks to a spirited collaboration between its alumni, local leaders, and the wider community. The school, previously plagued by crumbling infrastructure and low enrollment, is being transformed into a model learning institution in the region.

The driving force behind the school’s transformation is a group of former students led by Dr. Henry Rotich, a renowned alumnus and patron of the school. Dr. Rotich has spearheaded the second phase of a comprehensive renovation initiative to improve the institution’s physical infrastructure and educational standards.

“This school was in a deplorable state—dilapidated classrooms, leaking roofs, and an open compound where livestock roamed freely,” Dr. Rotich said during a recent community event at the school. “We couldn’t sit back and watch it collapse. Education has the power to transform lives, and we must safeguard it for these children.”

New Facilities, Renewed Hope

The ongoing renovations include refurbishing old classrooms, replacing broken roofing sheets, installing secure fencing, and leveling the playing field for sports and extracurricular activities. One of the most transformative interventions has been the establishment of a school feeding program, designed to tackle student absenteeism and improve concentration in class.

“Many of these children could not return home for lunch, especially during the rainy season,” added Dr. Rotich. “We started the feeding program to ensure they can stay in school and learn effectively. However, we still need more support to sustain it.”

Enrolment Soars Amid School’s Revival

According to the school’s Headteacher, Anne Sitienei, enrollment has grown from just 24 to more than 150 students in under a year—an unprecedented turnaround.

“We are incredibly grateful to the alumni, especially Dr. Rotich, for fencing the school, ensuring we have water, and introducing the feeding program,” she said. “These initiatives have completely turned things around. We are no longer at risk of closure, and we expect our enrollment to exceed 200 soon.”

County Government Backs the Effort

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who officially opened the new AIC Kipkombot ECDE Center in Kabiyet Ward, praised the community’s initiative and pledged continued government support.

“The construction of ECDE centers across the county remains a priority in my development agenda,” Governor Sang said. “We are determined to provide young learners with the resources they need to thrive in their educational journey.”

Renovations to Be Completed Before Reopening

With schools expected to reopen for the second term later this month, Dr. Henry Rotich, has give an undertaking that the ongoing renovations will be completed within the  week.

“We are on track to finalize all the major works before the school resumes. Our goal is to offer students a dignified, secure, and inspiring place to learn,” Dr. Ronoh stated.

Parents Encouraged to Return

Community members have lauded the changes, urging parents who had previously transferred their children due to poor conditions to reconsider.

A Brighter Future Beckons

Kipkombot’s revival is not just about new buildings; it’s about restoring hope, pride, and opportunity. The collective action of alumni and residents has  offered  a powerful example of what community-driven development can achieve.

“This is only the beginning,” Dr. Rotich emphasized. “With sustained support, Kipkombot will become a leading institution—not just in Mosop, but across the county.”
