The Kiambu County Government is set to deploy 500 additional Point of Sale (POS) devices across the county to improve revenue collection, increase accountability and reduce loss of public funds.
According to a statement from the Kiambu County Department of Finance and Economic Planning, the devices are currently being configured by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers under the county’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
County Executive Committee Member for Finance Nancy Njeri Kirumba said the move is aimed at strengthening digital revenue collection and improving service delivery.
“The deployment of these devices will enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection across the county,” said Kirumba.
The new devices will be used in areas where the county collects revenue, including parking fees, market dues, cess, quarry charges, slaughterhouse fees, veterinary services, tourism charges and library services.
Research by the Controller of Budget has shown that many counties lose millions of shillings every year due to weak manual revenue collection systems and poor accountability.
Experts say digital payment systems help reduce corruption, improve record keeping and increase county revenue.
Kirumba said the ERP system will allow county officers to monitor payments in real time and quickly identify any irregularities.
“By introducing more digital payment options, we are making it easier for residents and businesses to pay for county services while reducing risks linked to cash handling,” she added.
County officials believe the project will support Kiambu’s digital transformation agenda and improve financial planning and public service delivery.
The rollout of the 500 POS devices is expected to help the county increase revenue collection and strengthen accountability in financial operations.
