The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) has intensified efforts to strengthen Kenya’s global trade image after hosting a media training and engagement session for journalists in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The forum, held at Boma Inn Hotel on Tuesday, brought together reporters from various media houses to deepen their understanding of nation branding and export promotion as the country seeks to expand market access for local products.

Participants were taken through presentations on Kenya’s export performance, brand positioning and the critical role of the media in shaping the country’s international reputation.

KEPROBA Chief Executive Officer Floice Mukabana, in a statement delivered by Director of Nation Brand Development, Marketing and Communication Maureen Mambo, emphasized that journalists are key partners in economic growth.

The media plays a critical role in telling Kenya’s story to local and international audiences. By equipping journalists with deeper insights into nation branding and export promotion, we are building partnerships that will position Kenya’s products and services more competitively,” Mukabana said.

She added that the agency is focused on ensuring Kenyan goods receive positive visibility both locally and internationally.

“KEPROBA remains committed to enhancing brand visibility, supporting product development, and ensuring positive placement of Kenyan products in various markets. Media engagements are essential in amplifying these messages to stakeholders, exporters and importers,” she said.

Journalists who attended the session welcomed the training, noting it would help them report economic matters more accurately and promote locally produced goods.

One participant said the engagement would improve how business stories are framed in the media.

“Understanding export dynamics helps us report beyond events and focus on impact — how farmers, manufacturers and traders benefit from international markets,” the journalist said.

The training precedes the Exporters Roundtable scheduled for February 18 in Uasin Gishu County. The meeting will bring together exporters, industry players and government officials to discuss barriers to trade, explore opportunities and enhance Kenya’s competitiveness in global markets.

Organizers say the forum aims to create continuous dialogue between businesses and government while identifying practical interventions to increase export volumes.

KEPROBA, a state corporation formed after the merger of the Export Promotion Council and Brand Kenya Board, is mandated to promote Kenya’s export of goods and services and strengthen the country’s brand globally.
