The Kenyan Senate has unveiled its legislative priorities for 2025, with a strong emphasis on revenue sharing, devolution, and public participation.
Speaking at a media briefing from his Senate office, Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye outlined the institution’s commitment to strengthening devolved governance and advocating for county interests.
A key focus for the Senate this year will be revenue sharing between the national and county governments. Nyegenye reiterated the Senate’s role as a mediator in these discussions, ensuring an equitable allocation of resources that will drive local development initiatives.
“The debate surrounding revenue sharing is crucial for ensuring equitable development across Kenya,” he stated, emphasizing the Senate’s push for a transparent formula that benefits all counties fairly.
The Senate has previously played a crucial role in securing increased county funding and passing significant legislation to support devolution.
