Kenya is set to host the 2026 World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) General Assembly, with about 1,000 delegates expected to attend the global event scheduled for June 8–11, 2026, at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) confirmed that it will co-host the meeting in partnership with the World Farmers’ Organization, marking the first time Kenya will host the assembly and only the fourth time it is being held in Africa.

According to KENAFF, the event will bring together participants from about 90 countries, including farmers, policymakers, private sector players, researchers, innovators, and exhibitors. The forum is expected to strengthen collaboration across the agricultural value chain and advance solutions that benefit farmers globally.

KENAFF Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mwenda Mailutha said the federation intends to use the platform to showcase initiatives aimed at empowering farmers, particularly youth, women, and other special interest groups.

“We are honoured to be the local host for this flagship event for the global farming fraternity,” Dr. Mailutha said.

A local organising committee comprising representatives from the public sector, private sector, and civil society has already been constituted to oversee preparations for the global gathering.

Committee chair L. Nduati Kariuki said hosting the assembly will elevate Kenya’s profile as a key agricultural hub, noting that preparations are being undertaken in collaboration with relevant government ministries and agencies.

He added that organisers are working closely with stakeholders to ensure the event is successfully delivered and meets international standards.

KENAFF National Chairman Prof. Kaburu M’Ribu said the assembly aligns with Kenya’s broader national agenda on agriculture and food security, which is central to the country’s economic transformation goals.

KENAFF further noted that it represents about 1.4 million farmers across all 47 counties, organised into 11 regions and 42 commodity associations.
