Kenya Strengthens Digital Growth with Huawei

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has lauded Huawei’s 25-year journey in Kenya, highlighting its pivotal role in advancing the country’s technological and digital agenda.
Speaking during the presentation of Huawei’s LEAP Report by Deputy CEO Steven Zhang, Mudavadi underscored the synergy between the LEAP program and Kenya’s Digital Superhighway initiative.
The LEAP program (Leadership, Employability, Advancement, and Possibility) focuses on equipping Kenyan youth with vital digital skills, positioning them for careers in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Mudavadi emphasized that such programs are integral to achieving Kenya’s vision of becoming a global digital hub.
“This initiative aligns seamlessly with the government’s Digital Superhighway agenda, empowering our youth with essential digital skills to thrive in ICT careers,” said Mudavadi.
He encouraged Huawei to expand its efforts and assured the company of continued government support for transformative initiatives that enhance Kenya’s digital capacity.
The partnership between Huawei and Kenya gained significant momentum following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during President William Ruto’s visit to Beijing in October 2023.
The MoU emphasizes collaboration in ICT development, a key pillar in Kenya’s long-term economic strategy.
Huawei’s commitment to Kenya goes beyond skills development. The company has played a critical role in advancing digital infrastructure, fostering innovation, and creating employment opportunities.
