Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to shaping a foreign policy that aligns with Kenya’s evolving domestic priorities and global aspirations.

Speaking after participating in a high-level consultative forum on the review of Kenya’s Foreign Policy, Mudavadi highlighted the significant contributions made by H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, who provided invaluable insights during the discussions.

“This consultative process marks a significant milestone in ensuring our foreign policy remains responsive to the dynamic global environment,” Mudavadi noted. “It is imperative that this policy not only safeguards Kenya’s national interests and values but also embodies inclusivity, citizen-centered governance, and a whole-of-government, all-of-society approach.”

Kenya’s Foreign Policy, last revised in 2014, is undergoing a comprehensive review to reflect the country’s aspirations in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

The process aims to solidify Kenya’s position as a regional and global leader while ensuring that its international engagements align with national priorities such as economic growth, climate action, and peacebuilding.

President Ruto, whose administration has made significant strides in enhancing Kenya’s global presence, has been instrumental in steering this review.

Over the past two and a half years, his leadership has redefined Kenya’s international profile, fostering strategic partnerships and positioning the country as a key player in Africa and beyond.

Mudavadi announced that the revised Foreign Policy draft would be finalized and launched on December 2, 2024.

Following Cabinet approval, the document will be submitted to Parliament for further consideration as a sessional paper.

To ensure public engagement, the government plans to roll out a nationwide sensitization campaign under the banner “Foreign Policy Mashinani”.

The initiative aims to educate citizens on the role and impact of foreign policy on Kenya’s development and international standing.

“The future is not inherited—it is created,” Mudavadi emphasized. “By anchoring our foreign policy on shared values and national interests, we can build a legacy that reflects the aspirations of all Kenyans.”

This proactive approach underscores the government’s recognition of foreign policy as a tool for advancing Kenya’s vision on the global stage, ensuring that the country remains adaptive and resilient in the face of emerging global challenges.

The revised policy is expected to provide a robust framework to enhance Kenya’s diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties worldwide, while safeguarding its sovereignty and promoting regional integration.
