Kenya will today, Friday, take part in the continent-wide commemoration of African Anti-Corruption Day 2025, aligning with other African Union (AU) Member States in recognizing efforts to fight corruption across Africa.
Celebrated annually on July 11, the day serves as a moment for African countries to evaluate progress in the fight against corruption, reflect on past achievements and ongoing challenges, and determine the way forward in combating the vice.
This year’s observance carries the theme “Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption.” It underscores the intrinsic link between ethical governance and the protection of basic human rights.
In Kenya, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will lead national activities to mark the day. The main event will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
The commission is encouraging all citizens to embrace integrity and help cultivate a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership for future generations.
The event will bring together stakeholders from government agencies, private institutions, and civil society organizations. These participants will engage in panel discussions revolving around the central theme, sharing insights and proposing practical strategies to advance anti-corruption efforts.
“As we stand for integrity, our collective actions have the power to reshape societies,” EACC stated. “This is more than just a day of words—it’s a call to action for fairness, justice, and opportunity that benefits everyone.”
EACC further emphasized the need for solidarity and resilience in combating corruption. “Every voice raised against corruption adds strength to our cause. Together, we are building a future rooted in integrity and good governance.”
Key speeches will be delivered by Abdi Mohamud, the EACC Secretary and CEO, along with Bishop David Oginde, who serves as the Commission’s Chairperson.
The African Anti-Corruption Day was established by the African Union to commemorate the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC). Since its adoption, 48 AU Member States have ratified the convention, taking concrete steps such as enacting anti-corruption laws, setting up institutions, and implementing preventative strategies to fight corruption across the continent.
