Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to its strategic partnership with China, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in driving the nation’s development agenda.

Mudavadi hosted Her Excellency Guo Haiyan, the newly appointed Ambassador of China to Kenya, during a courtesy visit to his office.

The discussions were described as insightful and forward-looking, focusing on strengthening cooperation between Kenya and China across several critical sectors, including infrastructure, ICT, energy, education, climate change, governance, peace, security, and political stability.

This comprehensive engagement reflects the depth of the bilateral relationship that has grown over the years.

Ambassador Guo Haiyan reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s development aspirations, particularly in advancing flagship projects that are integral to the country’s economic growth.

Among these is the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to the Malaba border, a project that is expected to enhance regional connectivity and trade efficiency.

Additionally, the ambassador highlighted China’s dedication to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global infrastructure development strategy, which is set to further enhance Kenya’s road network.

This includes significant upgrades to the Nairobi-Nakuru-Malaba road, a vital corridor for trade and transportation within the region.

Kenya has increasingly benefited from its partnership with China, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development and technology transfer. The SGR and other infrastructure projects financed by China have significantly improved Kenya’s transport and logistics sectors, facilitating trade both within the country and with neighboring nations.
