Residents of Kaptagat in Elgeyo Marakwet stormed Kaptagat Police Station on Tuesday morning, accusing officers at the station of being involved in the disappearance and slaughter of a missing cow. The residents, angered by rising cases of livestock theft in the area, claimed that their cows often vanish mysteriously, only for them to end up at the police station.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the stolen cow was being slaughtered at the residence of the Officer Commanding Kaptagat Police Station (OCS), located within the station’s premises.

One of the enraged residents voiced their frustration, saying:

“Cows have been disappearing for months, and we always suspected foul play. Today, we followed the tracks and found them slaughtering a cow right here at the police station! How can those meant to protect us be the ones stealing from us?”

Angry residents gather outside Kaptagat Police Station demanding answers over a stolen cow.

The incident drew significant attention, with more locals gathering outside the station, demanding immediate action. The residents insisted that the officers implicated in the incident be investigated and held accountable for their actions.

Another resident added:

“We trust the police to safeguard our property, not steal from us. If the police can do this, where else can we turn for justice?”

Authorities in Elgeyo Marakwet have yet to issue an official statement, but pressure is mounting for the implicated officers, including the station’s OCS, to be investigated.

The community continues to demand transparency and justice amid the escalating livestock theft crisis.
