“ Don’t allow excuses to hold you back from adopting wealth creation,” he urged. “This is not just about improving your household income but also about enhancing food security in our communities.”

Governor Wisley Rotich of Elgeyo Marakwet has called on farmers in the county’s arid and semi-arid areas to embrace simple drip irrigation technology to cultivate fruit trees. Speaking at a community gathering, Governor Rotich highlighted the potential for farmers to improve their livelihoods through small-scale fruit farming.

“With just 20 fruit trees in your compound and simple watering technology, you can earn enough to pay school fees and take care of your family,” said Governor Rotich, emphasizing the economic benefits of adopting modern irrigation methods.

The governor pointed out that many farmers in the region have been hesitant to invest in new farming techniques due to the upfront costs and lack of awareness. However, he assured them that the long-term benefits far outweigh the initial expenses.

“ Don’t allow excuses to hold you back from adopting wealth creation,” he urged. “This is not just about improving your household income but also about enhancing food security in our communities.”

Governor Rotich also noted that the county government is exploring partnerships with agricultural extension officers and NGOs to provide training and resources to farmers interested in learning about drip irrigation. The initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity in a region often plagued by drought and water scarcity.

Local farmers have responded positively to the governor’s call, with many expressing interest in learning more about drip irrigation and its benefits.

“The governor’s encouragement has given us a new perspective on farming,” said Mary , a local farmer. “We are ready to try out these new methods and see how they can transform our lives.”

The county government has pledged to continue supporting such initiatives to empower farmers and improve the overall economic landscape of Elgeyo Marakwet.
