Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has declared that he will not be intimidated into silence over his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during an interview on Sulwe FM on Tuesday, Natembeya claimed he is being targeted by unnamed individuals for refusing to praise the current regime.
“There seems to be a group of people following me just because I have chosen not to speak highly of the President,” said Natembeya. “If I’ve done something wrong, come and face me directly — don’t hire people to stalk me. Kenya is a free country, and this idea that those who don’t praise the President are enemies must stop.”
The outspoken governor said he will not back down from demanding better governance and defending the rights of Kenyans. Emphasizing his resolve, Natembeya noted that he will neither be silenced nor intimidated.
“Everyone is born once and dies once. I don’t live in fear, and I will not be silenced,” he asserted. In a bold statement directed at President Ruto, Natembeya claimed that even threats to his life would not make him abandon his principles. “I know you may even send people to kill me, but let me tell you, Mr. President — I am not scared. I will always speak my mind.”
Natembeya’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with some allies of the Kenya Kwanza administration pushing back against his vocal opposition.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has reportedly floated the idea of initiating an impeachment motion against the governor, citing his persistent criticism of the government.Despite the pressure, Natembeya appears to be receiving support from unlikely quarters.
The impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly voiced backing for the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, suggesting broader political undercurrents at play.
Natembeya has been openly critical of the Ruto administration’s performance, particularly on matters of healthcare, economic hardships, and governance.
His continued criticism has deepened political divisions in the region and fueled a fierce rivalry with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula over influence in the Western region.
