Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has emphasized the urgent need for a collaborative approach to combating climate change and restoring ecosystems.

Speaking during an international climate conference held in partnership with Moi University, Governor Bii underscored the critical impact of climate change on farming communities and called for practical, inclusive solutions.

The conference, the first of its kind in the region, brought together environmental experts, academics, and policymakers to address the rising effects of climate change on agriculture, energy, and community livelihoods.

Governor Bii noted that climate change continues to pose a significant threat to the livelihoods of farmers, who form the backbone of Uasin Gishu’s economy.

In his keynote presentation titled “Combating Climate Change: Re-imagining Resilience through Marginalized Groups’ Political Ecology and Decentralized Innovations in Uasin Gishu”, Governor Bii highlighted the importance of integrating marginalized communities into climate action plans and investing in decentralized, renewable energy solutions.

“We must offer practical solutions to address the effects of climate change, which are already impacting our society, especially in farming regions,” he said. “Restoring ecosystems and embracing clean energy will ensure sustainability for future generations.”

The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting research, innovation, and climate education through strategic partnerships with institutions such as Moi University.

The conference concluded with a call to action for regional collaboration, grassroots engagement, and policy reforms to address the climate crisis head-on.
