Gladys Boss Shollei, Uasin Gishu County Woman Representative and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, has voiced robust support for the newly introduced university funding model, asserting that it will significantly aid disadvantaged students in accessing higher education more readily.
Addressing attendees at the Kapsoya DCC event for the distribution of NGAAF funds, Shollei emphasized the transformative potential of the new funding model. “This funding model is a landmark development for our education sector. It is designed to make higher education more accessible to students from less privileged backgrounds, thereby leveling the playing field and opening doors that were previously closed to many,” Shollei stated.
The event, which also saw the participation of several notable legislators including Hon. Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Hon. Naomi Waqo (Marsabit), Hon. Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga), Hon. Cynthia Muge (Nandi), Hon. Liza Chelule (Nakuru), Hon. Jane Kagiri (Laikipia), Hon. Beatrice Kemei (Kericho), and Hon. Anne Wamuratha (Kiambu), provided a platform for discussing the impact of the funding model and distributing NGAAF funds aimed at community development.
During her speech, Shollei officially handed over KSh 14 million in funds designated for various development projects across Uasin Gishu County. “These funds are crucial for empowering women, youth, and other groups within our county. They will support initiatives that foster growth and development, helping to uplift our communities,” she emphasized.
The event also featured strong endorsements from other leaders who congratulated Shollei for her inclusive approach, particularly her efforts to address the needs of the boy child in affirmative action programs. Many noted that in several regions, the boy child has been overlooked in such initiatives. “By focusing on the boy child, we are ensuring that no group is left behind in our efforts to promote equal opportunities,” remarked Hon. Anne Wamuratha from Kiambu County .

In addition, the women MPs collectively appealed to Generation Z to provide the government with more time to implement its development plans effectively. “We understand that there is a lot of anticipation and expectation from the younger generation. However, we urge patience and support as the government works diligently to achieve its development goals and bring about meaningful change,” they stated.
The event highlighted the significant strides being made in addressing educational and developmental needs within the country, while also underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing national goals.
