A senior administrator in Gatundu South sub-county has died by suicide after being accused of sexually assaulting two underage boys, in a case that has shocked the local community.
The assistant chief, whose name has been withheld pending official identification, was found dead at his matrimonial home on April 20, 2025.
According to Gatundu Police Commander Jane Makena, the chief’s wife discovered the tragedy after returning from a clinic visit.
She found the door locked from the inside and, growing concerned, alerted a relative who forced entry and found the body.
Makena confirmed that police officers were dispatched to the scene and later transferred the body to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home.
She expressed regret that the victims in this case may never see justice due to the suspect’s death.
“It’s so sad that the assaulted victims will not get justice due to this tragic turn of events. I urge the community to report such cases promptly so immediate action can be taken,” she said.
Investigations revealed disturbing details. One of the victims recounted how he and his friends went to the chief’s home to deliver milk.
They were allegedly lured into a separate house, served alcohol, and later attacked. One minor, upon regaining consciousness, found himself injured and bleeding, prompting his family to file a report at Gatundu Police Station under OB No.04/24/04/25.
Further reports indicated the assistant chief also trailed the boys to a neighboring homestead, where more assaults allegedly took place.
One victim described how the chief questioned him about circumcision rites before attempting to force himself on him, leaving the boys traumatized and afraid to leave their homes.
The community is in shock, as the chief was regarded as a respected leader and had even pursued priesthood training. “How can a man trusted to uphold law and order turn into a predator?” questioned local resident Wambui, who also claimed the chief had tried to bribe the victims’ families into silence.
Gatundu South Assistant County Commissioner Rose Chege confirmed the incident and assured the public that justice will be served. “All victims have been examined by medical officers. I want to assure you that we will ensure justice prevails,” she said, while criticizing the community’s delayed reporting of the crimes.
