Kipkombot Primary School in Mosop Nandi County has transformed its abandoned state through dedicated efforts which have restored its educational mission.

The public institution faced imminent shutdown three years ago. The school struggled to operate because its facilities were falling apart and there were not enough teachers and only 20 students were enrolled. Parents sought alternate educational options because learning became impossible for their children who faced challenges with inadequate school facilities.

The school had to face its most challenging period according to Act Head Teacher Patricia Jelagat when its future existed in uncertainty. Carolyne Kale who belongs to the community states that many citizens believed the institution would eventually disappear because the government failed to provide sufficient financial backing.

The subsequent events created a powerful demonstration of community solidarity. The local community together with the local clergy members collected funds to support the school which was facing financial difficulties. The school received donations including desks and learning materials and agricultural equipment which would help students learn practical skills.

AIC Nandi Bishop Moses Serem states that the church recognized the need to assist in restoring the school’s dignity and providing permanent educational support to students.

The intervention has created visible effects which are currently observable. The school experienced an enrolment increase from 20 pupils in 2023 to more than 100 students today. Infrastructure has improved dramatically because the school has now established basic security measures which include fencing.

The transformation of the local community shows how community-led development initiatives can build up local institutions according to former Education Officer Ernest Too.

The organization has achieved progress, but it still faces multiple obstacles. The playground remains unusable because the area has become messy and the grass has grown too tall. The Nandi County Government committed to restoring the grounds, yet they have not completed this commitment after one year.

School officials want to receive stable financial support from national authorities through Mosop NG-CDF and Nandi County Government financial channels. The organization requests assistance for sustainable school meal distribution and sufficient clean water supply and roof replacement before the upcoming rainy season.
