Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde penned an emotional farewell to longtime teammate Lucas Vázquez on Thursday, paying tribute to the veteran’s character, influence, and lasting legacy at the club.
In a heartfelt letter shared across social media, Valverde reflected on their bond built over seasons together at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“My friend, my brother,” Valverde wrote. “How hard it’s going to be not finding you in the locker room near me. How f*cked up I’ll be when I need a word of encouragement, a hug or a buddy.”
Vázquez, who joined Madrid’s first team in 2015, is expected to leave the club after a decade of service, during which he earned praise for his professionalism, versatility, and work ethic.
The 33-year-old, known for his reliability on the right flank, became a fan favorite and a quiet leader in a dressing room filled with stars.
Valverde emphasized Vázquez’s unwavering support through difficult moments and credited him with teaching resilience and positivity: “I learned with you the resilience and to always show the best face even when things were not as expected.”
“You are an example. On and off the pitch and I am sure we will miss you a lot,” Valverde added.
The message concluded with words of admiration and gratitude: “I wish you the best, in your life, your family and in the rest of your career, I have no doubt that you will do it in the best way, as you always did. I love you Luqui. Thank you.”
Vázquez’s next move has not been officially announced, but reports suggest he may be considering offers from clubs outside Spain. Regardless of his future, Valverde’s tribute captured the deep sense of loss felt within the team.
The note marks more than just a goodbye—it is a reminder of the personal connections that define a footballer’s life beyond the pitch, and the quiet leadership that teammates never forget.
