Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernández has won the club’s September Goal of the Month award for his strike in the 5-3 Premier League victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium.
Fernández opened the scoring with his first goal for City, helping Pep Guardiola’s side secure their fifth consecutive Premier League win at the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Argentine caught Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs off guard with a clever free-kick effort from a tight angle. With the visitors expecting the delivery to be sent into the penalty area, Fernández instead went directly for goal, curling his effort towards the near post.
The goal set the tone for an entertaining contest at the Etihad, with City eventually claiming a 5-3 victory.
Fernández won the monthly award ahead of several other impressive strikes from across Manchester City’s men’s, women’s and youth teams.
Floyd Samba finished second for his second goal in City’s 5-0 Carabao Cup victory over Norwich City, while Alex Greenwood’s goal against Charlton was voted third.
Other nominees included Ryan McAidoo’s goal in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich, Bunny Shaw’s second goal in the Women’s team’s 3-1 opening-day victory over Birmingham, and Mary Fowler’s effort in the 4-1 away win at Aston Villa.
Teddie Lamb was also nominated for his goal in City’s UEFA Youth League opener against FC Porto. Dexter Oliver’s fourth goal and Timeo Whisker’s first strike in the Under-18 side’s 6-0 win at Everton completed the list of nominees.
Fernández’s goal therefore emerged as the club’s top strike for September after receiving the most votes from supporters.
The award adds another individual recognition for Fernández as he continues his first season with Manchester City. His goal against Sunderland also proved important in maintaining City’s perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign at that stage of the season.
