Construction Begins on Ksh 737 Million State-of-the-Art Medical Facility
The Uasin Gishu County Government has launched the construction of Eldoret’s first modern diagnostic centre, a landmark healthcare project designed to enhance medical services in the region.
The Ksh 737 million facility, comprising Ksh 437 million for construction and Ksh 300 million for medical equipment, is set to revolutionize diagnosis, research, and treatment. The centre, expected to be completed in three years, will reduce patient referrals to other counties and provide specialized care locally.
Governor Jonathan Bii, has emphasized the project’s significance in strengthening healthcare delivery.
“This diagnostic centre is a milestone in our commitment to improving healthcare services in Uasin Gishu. By integrating modern medical technology, we are ensuring that residents receive top-quality healthcare without the need to travel long distances,” he stated.
Once operational, the centre is expected to serve thousands of patients annually, easing the burden on existing healthcare facilities such as Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and Uasin Gishu County Hospital.
Maternity Services Disrupted as Construction Begins
As construction commences, patients—especially expectant mothers—are experiencing service disruptions. Pregnant women who previously sought care at Uasin Gishu Hospital are now being referred to either Mama Rachel Ruto Hospital on Eldoret’s outskirts or MTRH.
Health officials have acknowledged the temporary inconvenience but assured the public that the long-term benefits of the new facility far outweigh the short-term disruptions.
Comprehensive Medical Services Under One Roof
The diagnostic centre will house a wide range of medical services, reducing the need for patient transfers to other counties.
County Executive for Health Dr. Abraham Serem highlighted the facility’s potential to enhance healthcare efficiency and accessibility.
“This project is designed to meet the growing demand for specialized healthcare in Uasin Gishu. By incorporating cutting-edge medical equipment, we are ensuring that residents can access high-quality treatment close to home,” he said.
Investment in Healthcare: Budget Breakdown
The total project cost stands at Ksh 737 million, with:
- Ksh 437 million allocated for construction

Long-Term Impact on Healthcare in Uasin Gishu
