The Judicial service Commission JSC has hinted at  deploying more Judges and Magistrates in Eldoret upon the conferment of  Eldoret town into a City.

Addressing  members of the press after a courtesy call at the  Uasin Gishu County Governor’s office on Friday, JSC commissioner Jacqueline Ingutiah observed that more  courts will be built  across the  Six  Sub Counties of Uasin Gishu in order to dispense justice closer to the people,

“Soon we  should be able to operationalize  a court in Turbo and Moiben Sub Counties, the county Government has promised to secure land in the remaining four sub counties where the  courts will be established” Stated  Ms Ingutiah.

After the  conferment of  Eldoret into a  city  we will consider to  send  more  judges  and magistrates as well as a Court of  Appeal  depending on the  flow of  cases ,that process is data  driven. Added Ingutiah

On his part Former Bomet Governor Isack Ruto and a member of the JSC has  implored upon Kenyans  to embrace Alternative Justice  systems  in order to reduce  a backlog of cases  that could otherwise  be directed  to the alternative dispute resolution  mechanism

“we want  to encourage the public to understand the judicial system  and should not  treat judicial officers with a lot of  suspicion  , we want  to embrace  community elders  in arbitrating  some of the  cases as it were in the old days”Said Ruto.

The  JSC has vowed to  seek   legal interpretation of  the mandates of the  Salaries and  remuneration commission SRC  under article 230 over an impulse with the JSC as regards to the  benefits  and  remuneration of  judicial staff  as outlined under  article 172.

“it’s the  extent of  that mandate  that we  are  having  a friction over, however  we  trust that agencies tasked with interpreting the law  will provide  guidance” Affirmed Ingutiah
