Elgeyo Marakwet County embarks on data collection on value chain actors!

Launch of Farmer Registration, Elgeyo Marakwet County

The process to map  value chain actors across Elgeyo Marakwet County officially began on Friday.

The 232 enumerators picked across all the 20 Wards are expected to profile and map all value chain actors in  their respective Wards after a flagging off  ceremony  that was presided over by CEC Agriculture Edwin Seroney.

 

The County in collaboration with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) the community driven development project seeks to increase market participation and value addition for targeted small-scale farmers in the country who are engaged across 33 counties.

 

According to James Singi, from the NAVCDP project coordinating unit, the enumerators will focus on smallholder farmers.

 

“This project targets smallholder value chain  actors in the county,and especially those who have transitioned from subsistence to commercial farming.”He said

 

Mr Seroney, while flagging off the enumerators urged them to be diligent in their work.

 

“Data you collect will inform the next phase of determining the viability of the value chains in the county. I would also like to urge our farmers to give all relevant information to the enumerators,” said Seroney.

 

The exercise will run for the next three weeks.
