World 10,000m and half marathon silver medalist Daniel Ebenyo and 10km world record holder Agnes Jebet Ng’etich stamped their dominance in the 2025 Sirikwa Classic Cross Country in Eldoret, delivering spectacular performances on a challenging course.

Ebenyo successfully defended his title, crossing the finish line in 29:57, fending off stiff competition from Gideon Rono (30:07) and Nicholas Kipkorir (30:15), who settled for second and third place, respectively.

Reflecting on his victory, Ebenyo acknowledged the grueling nature of the course but expressed satisfaction with his performance.

“The race was far from easy, but I’m thrilled to have defended my title. This win boosts my confidence as I now shift focus to next month’s Seoul Marathon on the 16th, where I aim to deliver another strong performance,” said Ebenyo.

In the women’s race, Agnes Ng’etich put on a commanding show, clocking 32:42 to clinch the title. Janeth Chepng’etich finished a close second in 32:52, while Miriam Chebet secured third in 34:09. The race also saw a surprising development as world champion Faith Kipyegon withdrew midway.

Despite the scorching conditions, an elated Ng’etich expressed gratitude for the experience and the opportunity to compete against a legend like Kipyegon.

“It was a tough race, especially with the heat, but I’m delighted with the win. Racing against Faith was an incredible experience—she’s my mentor, and running alongside her was truly special,” Ng’etich said.

She further emphasized the mutual respect between them, adding:

“We may both be world record holders, but today, it was about each of us running her own race.”

Rising Stars Shine in U20 Races

In the U20 men’s 8km, Kelvin Kiprop, the National Cross Country champion, showcased his growing pedigree, storming to victory in 24:24. Frankline Kibet (24:27) and Festus Kimorwo (24:27) completed the podium in an electrifying finish.

Kiprop credited his recent success to consistency and discipline.

“Winning in Iten gave me confidence in my training program. With this Sirikwa title, I now have three major victories. Competing against senior athletes is no easy feat, but I’m determined to qualify for the World Championships in the 1,500m and 5,000m,” he stated.

In the U20 women’s 6km, Cynthia Chepkirui dominated the field, crossing the line in 20:37, ahead of Joyline Jepkemoi and Diana Chepkemoi.

Jepkemoi, who finished second, was thrilled with her progress.

“I started the season finishing sixth, but my performance has been improving consistently. My goal now is to qualify for the Africa Championships in the 1,500m and 5,000m. It won’t be easy, especially since I’m also preparing for my Form Four exams at AIC Cheptonon in Nandi County,” she remarked.

The 2025 Sirikwa Classic Cross Country once again showcased Kenya’s depth of talent, with seasoned champions defending their titles and rising stars making their mark. As the road to the World Championships and major marathons continues, these performances have set the stage for an exciting athletics season ahead.
