Aden Duale, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, presided over the prestigious Sheikh Umar Faruq Quran Competition finals in Mandera County, an event that showcased the talents of 36 participants from Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties.

The competition, organized by the Al-Huda Education Trust, highlighted the rich tradition of Quranic recitation in the region, with participants demonstrating remarkable skill and devotion.

The top honor of the competition went to Rayan Abdinoor Salad from Garissa, who claimed first place with his exceptional recitation.

The event was graced by a distinguished guest, renowned scholar Sheikh Abdul Rashid Ali Sufi from Qatar, whose presence added to the significance of the occasion.

In addition to Sheikh Sufi, Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif and regional Members of Parliament were also in attendance, further emphasizing the importance of the event to the local and national communities.

During his speech at the event, Aden Duale acknowledged the role of religious and cultural events in strengthening community ties and preserving the region’s rich heritage.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education and development, particularly those that cater to the needs of the pastoral communities in northern Kenya.

In line with the forum’s theme of progress and community welfare, Duale also highlighted the government’s support for President William Ruto’s nationwide mass vaccination program for livestock.

This initiative, aimed at vaccinating all livestock in Kenya, is expected to have far-reaching benefits for the pastoral communities, who manage approximately 80% of the country’s livestock.

By ensuring the health and productivity of livestock, the program will open new global markets for Kenyan animals and animal products, thereby boosting the economy and enhancing livelihoods for pastoralists.

The leaders at the event expressed their shared commitment to these progressive reforms and their dedication to ensuring the success of the mass vaccination program.

They underscored that such initiatives would not only strengthen the agricultural sector but also enhance Kenya’s position in the global livestock trade.

The Sheikh Umar Faruq Quran Competition in Mandera, alongside discussions on livestock vaccination, was a reminder of the ongoing efforts by the government and local leaders to foster development, preserve culture, and support the livelihoods of Kenya’s pastoral communities.
