The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to shed light on serious allegations he made about multiple assassination attempts on his life.
The notice, issued following a press conference held by Gachagua on October 20, 2024, urges the Deputy President to appear before the DCI on October 22, 2024, at their headquarters on Kiambu Road.
The DCI’s move comes after Gachagua made explosive claims that security agents had tried to assassinate him.
During the press conference, Gachagua described an incident in Kisumu on August 30, 2024, where undercover agents allegedly entered his hotel room and bugged it.
He went further to claim that one of the agents attempted to poison his food.
“We detected it and were able to escape the scheme. I was supposed to be killed by food poisoning,” Gachagua stated.
The notice from the DCI acknowledges the gravity of the Deputy President’s allegations, stating, “These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly.”
In response to Gachagua’s claims, the DCI assured him that his accusations would be handled with the seriousness they deserve.
The detectives emphasized the importance of Gachagua’s cooperation in the investigation, as his testimony is seen as crucial to determining the truth behind the assassination claims.
“Your statement is a crucial component of our investigation,” the DCI noted in their notice.
They also expressed appreciation for Gachagua’s prompt attention to the matter, assuring him that the investigation would be conducted with the necessary sensitivity.
In his press conference, Gachagua suggested that these alleged assassination attempts were politically motivated, linking them to the recent impeachment motion brought against him.
“After the two attempts to assassinate me failed, that is when this impeachment motion was hatched,” Gachagua alleged, hinting at a wider plot against him.
As Gachagua prepares to meet with the DCI, his allegations have raised significant concerns about political tensions in the country.
The outcome of the investigation is awaited with keen interest, as it could have far-reaching implications for Kenya’s political landscape.
The Deputy President’s summons marks the beginning of what could be a high-profile investigation into an issue that has already captured the public’s attention.
