Over 5,000 investors of Springmark Agencies gathered in Eldoret today to express their frustration with the local police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for their slow progress in investigating the alleged robbery involving Ambrose Makech Sambut, the owner of the agency, who reportedly absconded with nearly Ksh 4 billion of investors’ money.

Joshua Kipkosgei, who invested over Ksh 1 million in the agency, voiced his anger, stating, “Eldoret, which is on the verge of becoming a city, should not be granted city status before all those involved in this scam are brought to justice. We demand that Ambrose Makech be found, and our money returned.”

Human rights activists have also joined the outcry, demanding the immediate investigation and transfer of security agencies, as well as a member of the judiciary, who are alleged to be protecting the suspect.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Eldoret has, however, noted that its officers are actively trailing the suspect. According to County Criminal Investigation Officer Daniel Muleli, the agency is committed to bringing Sambut to justice.

Tekla Melly, one of the victims defrauded by Springmark Agencies, was allegedly promised a monthly return of Ksh 54,000 by Sambut. She, along with fellow demonstrators Chebet, Ochieng, John Nala, and William Kepchumbe, urged the police to take immediate action. The group lamented that despite reporting the case nearly a year ago, they have yet to receive any significant response from the authorities.
