The 2024 Cycling CAC Championship officially commenced in Uasin Gishu County yesterday, with over 22 African nations participating, including Morocco, Eritrea, Rwanda, and Burundi.

The event, which began on Wednesday in Eldoret, features junior men, junior women, and under-23 categories, alongside several mixed categories. The races will continue through Thursday and Friday, focusing on the same groupings.

Due to the event, many roads in Eldoret have been closed to facilitate the competition, resulting in significant traffic congestion across the town.

The CAC event was officially launched in Nandi County by Principal Secretary for Sports, Engineer Peter Tum. He was joined by Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Eulita Cheruyiot, Elgeyo Marakwet CEC Purity Koima, and Uasin Gishu CEC for Roads, Engineer Lucy Ng’endo.

The championship spans three counties: Nandi, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo Marakwet. In the junior men’s category, participants will cover distances of 11.5 km, 22 km, 23 km, and 33.5 km.
