Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said he remains ready to serve the government of President William Ruto, adding that political unity is crucial for the development of the nation.

During his address in Kericho County on Friday, Wandayi, who was once an opposition leader, expressed his change of political direction as he calls on Kenyans to seek national interests over individual and party interests.

“I believe that our political partnership will hold beyond 2027. We have decided to work with President William Ruto, and we will keep to that course. We are part and parcel of the government, and the government’s foundations remain strong,” Wandayi said.

He urged the public to continue supporting President Ruto and expressed his confidence in the president’s leadership for the long term.

Wandayi’s statement underlines a significant political shift for a man who had been among the most prominent opposition voices in the country. The CS, from Siaya County in Nyanza-a region historically allied to opposition politics, was clear that his decision to work with Ruto is not taken lightly.

We are known to make firm decisions and stand by them. We have decided to work with the president. In the event you hear noises, don’t be troubled, even one bit,” he said while addressing concerns of political dissent.

The CS acknowledged having been involved in opposition politics in the past but insisted that national unity and progress were more important than individual and party differences.

You are well aware that I was firmly in the opposition. But the country is more important than any individual or any party. That is why, when President William Ruto invited us into his fold, I accepted the offer very fast,” he explained, suggesting that this partnership is key to ensuring stability and continued development.

Wandayi also praised the inclusivity of the regime led by President Ruto, stating that the government represents all communities across the country.

“President Ruto has appointed a government that is representative of every Kenyan and every community in our country, enabling citizens to unite and work together for development,” he added.

It is, however, utterances of the likes of Wandayi that signify the enthroning of what can be regarded as a concrete partnership between the Ruto government and its seniormost opposition detractors in an effort toward evoking national cohesion and shared development in light of shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
