Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen called on political leaders to be tolerant and use restraint in their words. During Mzee Weston Kirocho, father of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, funeral service in Laikipia County, Murkomen noted that democracy relies on diversity of thought and living together. He called on leaders to choose peace and unity over provocative words.
President William Ruto‘s administration remains committed to national unity and equal development. There is, therefore, no room for divisive rhetoric or inciting remarks,” Murkomen said.

His remarks followed Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s comments regarding former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the allocation of national resources—comments that drew huge criticism throughout the political divide.

Honoring Mzee Kirocho’s Legacy

The CS lamented the death of the late Mzee Kirocho as a highly honorable, truthful, and hardworking individual. The CS urged Kenyans to emulate the values of the deceased, referring to them as the pillars of harmony and a prosperous nation. Murkomen asserted moral values like unity, respect, and hard work play a significant role in maintaining stability and progress all over the country.

Peaceful Coexistence in Laikipia
Murkomen commended people living in Laikipia County for peaceful living despite earlier security challenges. According to him, coordination among local leaders, security units, and the community has been key to maintaining harmony and stability in the region. “Collaboration between government offices and members of the public has been important in ensuring peace,” he stated.

He reiterates the government’s priority on supporting community-driven peacebuilding efforts and youth empowerment schemes. These, he said, are designed to disengage young men from crime, cattle theft, and banditry, which have bedeviled some parts of the nation in the past.

Security Improvements and Development Agenda
CS highlighted that President Ruto’s consistent support for the security sector has yielded significant improvement in previously turbulent areas such as Kerio Valley and parts of Laikipia. “Thanks to improved equipment, improved morale among officers, and better leadership, security levels in those areas have increased by up to 75 percent,” Murkomen explained.

He emphasized that peace can only be achieved through sustainable development. The government, he reaffirmed, is coming up with infrastructure projects in Mukogodo Forest and Samburu County that will make the regions more accessible and facilitate security operations. “Our priority is community engagement and youth involvement as central pillars of sustainable peace,” he added.

Crackdown on Illicit Alcohol

Despite the major boost in security, Murkomen regretted the growing problem of illegal brews, with particular reference to Nyeri County, which takes position 17 in the world’s most impacted regions. He reassured the citizens that the responsible authorities are escalating raids geared towards breaking up illegal brewing syndicates, ensuring public health, and bringing back peace in the affected zones.

Murkomen’s call for tolerance and oneness is a testament to the government’s enduring focus on consolidating national unity and ensuring that all regions enjoy peace, security, and equitable development.
